Join us for five sessions on how to paint large pieces. Students will learn loose painting styles with emphasis on content, composition and color theory. The result will benefit students looking to use their paintings for their art portfolio for college admission and scholarship opportunities.
Our program will begin with an analysis on how to paint large canvases to enhance and supplement the students’ portfolio. There will be lectures and discussions on what’s happening in the art world as well as lessons in composition and color theory. We will apply painting techniques as well as xerox transfer techniques that incorporate graphic design elements.
To receive the maximum educational benefit to the class, students need to have a foundation and previous experience in acrylic painting.
Large sized paintings are looked for by art admission officers and are crucial to include in an art portfolio. It is more challenging than smaller paintings and shows the student’s ability for composition, critical thinking, and organization. Most paintings seen in galleries, museums, and the internet are larger than most students get to experience.
This workshop will be taught by Ms. Francy Caprino, former Director of Admissions at Pratt (Munson Campus). Ms. Francy has extensive knowledge and experience in what qualities art college admissions are looking for. She has helped many students get into the top 10 Art Universities in the country, with scholarships. She will guide and instruct students with the perspective of an art admissions officer.
We will not charge a material fee as students might be working with different materials, depending on what they need for their portfolio. Students can choose to paint on canvas or if they would like to learn xerox transfer techniques, they can choose to use wood board. If the student finishes faster, they can choose to start on another piece with a different material.
