Large Canvas Painting

How to Register

Summer Workshop: Rising 9th - 12th Graders

Canvases come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes, but the most challenging of all is the large canvas. Large canvases are often the most common type of painting shown in art museums and galleries. For high schoolers applying to art school, large canvas paintings are a must-have for college art portfolios.

Why are large canvases harder to paint? It takes a lot of planning. Your high schooler has to think more critically and understand how to organize their large canvas painting. This might sound like a lot of work (and it is), but your future art major will be guided by Francy Caprino, who has experience as a former admissions director at Pratt, one of the most prestigious art schools in the U.S. Francy is a long-time US Arts teacher who has helped lots of our students get into top art schools across the country.

Our Large Canvas Painting Summer Workshop for high schoolers also includes lessons on composition, color theory, and discussions about the world of art. Your high schooler will learn about different painting techniques, including Xerox transfer, which is used by professional graphic designers to transfer images onto different surfaces like fabric or wood.

Students can choose to paint on canvas or if they would like to learn Xerox transfer techniques, they can choose to use wood board. If the student finishes faster, they can choose to start on another piece with a different material.

Reserve your teen’s spot in our Large Canvas Painting workshop so they can spend part of their summer building up their college art portfolio! Spaces are limited to only 10 students.
