Agar Art: Microbial Expression

Does your child love science and enjoy experimenting with new ideas and materials? Check out our agar art workshop for rising 8th graders and above at our Vienna, Virginia location! This workshop invites your student to explore the intersection of science and art through hands-on discovery! 

Why agar art? Agar art blends both art and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Your child who loves STEM doesn’t just need those hard science skills; they also need to learn how to think creatively. In this workshop, students are encouraged to experiment, ask questions, and learn from trial and error - an essential part of both scientific inquiry and artistic practice. 

With guidance from our instructor, students will explore sketching, planning, and designing for agar art, while also discovering how materials, growth, and time influence the final results. Using a petri dish as a unique canvas, the focus is on the process of experimentation rather than perfection. 

The result? One-of-a-kind artwork that highlights the creativity at the heart of scientific exploration.
