Large-scale paintings require a different level of planning, structure, and visual decision-making than smaller works. For high school students preparing college art portfolios, experience working on a large canvas is often essential. This summer program is designed for young artists who want guided instruction in developing and completing large-format paintings. Students learn how to plan a composition, manage scale, and work through complex visual problems over an extended piece.
Instruction is led by Francy Caprino, a long-time U.S. Arts educator and former admissions director at Pratt Institute. Drawing on years of experience reviewing college portfolios and teaching high school students, Francy provides practical guidance on both artistic development and portfolio expectations.
Students may choose to work on traditional canvas or wood panels. The workshop also introduces Xerox transfer techniques, an industry method used by professional designers and fine artists to transfer imagery across surfaces.
Spaces are limited to only 10 students. Please note that this workshop will be at our Vienna location.
