Drawing live models is a common foundational practice in art colleges across the nation. This highly challenging yet rewarding drawing practice is now available at our Fairfax location to high school students and adults.
After assessing our portfolio students, their work, and their interests, we found that some of them need live model drawing work for their college application. So, for this summer, we are beginning a special program focused on figure drawing with a live model.
It is highly educational to draw from models because it trains the eye to find where main directional lines are on a person. This will ultimately help with drawing other three-dimensional subject matter.
Since art schools look for experience in live model drawing, practicing now before college is necessary and highly valuable. Our intimate setting will help students adjust faster to live model drawing and help them prepare for the experience in college.
We will have 2 sessions per week for four weeks, equaling a total of 8 sessions. The first part will have a clothed model, while the second part will have a nude model. Students may register for one or both parts.
Both parts will be led by a teacher. The teacher will train students to improve their observational drawing skills through sketching the live model in varying poses and time frames.
This class will take place at our Fairfax location.
We will be providing paper. Students must bring the following materials to class:
- Several sticks of vine charcoal like this one on amazon.
- Kneaded eraser like this one on amazon
- Soft shading pencils (B, or 2B, or 3B+)
Optional, but would be very nice to have:
- Conte crayons 4 color bunde - sanguine, bistre, black, and white like this one on amazon
- Pastels and watercolors would be great too for more options for the longer pose portfolio pieces
